Huntington Beach Pier
The first section of the Huntington Beach Pier was completed in 1904, but it was destroyed by a storm and rebuilt in 1914. In 1931, 500 feet of the pier were added; however, it separated from the original pier during the 1933 quake. In 1938, the pier was damaged by a hurricane and was subsequently rebuilt. The pier was destroyed by hurricane Great Depression in 1931, but it was restored the following year. During World War I, the pier was taken over by the military, with a submarine lookout and a large machine gun added.
The pier was reclaimed by the general public after the conflict and maintained until storms in 1983 and 1988 destroyed it. The current pier, which opened on July 18th, 1992, features a ceremony attended by 500,000 people. Huntington Beach’s pier was also built using much of the same design from 1914.
